Online ExhibitionsClara Belle Williams: New Mexico State University's First Black Graduate A web exhibit honoring NMSU's first black graduate. Clara Belle Williams dedicated her life to education as a teacher, life-long student and devoted mother. The exhibit site is best viewed through the latest version of Netscape and Internet Explorer. Best known for his discovery of the planet Pluto in 1930, Clyde W. Tombaugh was an astronomer and professor at NMSU from 1955 to 1973. The Clyde W. Tombaugh Papers are highlighted here, and additional information about Tombaugh and his career is provided. The exhibit site is best viewed through the latest version of Netscape and Internet Explorer. Shalam Colony: A Utopian Experiment Shalam Colony was founded near Las Cruces, New Mexico in the fall of 1884. Its purpose was to provide a place for outcast and orphaned children, and raise them to be the spiritual leaders of a new age. This exhibition includes information on the history of Shalam and the people who helped create it, a timeline of events, and a bibliography of resources for more information. Fabian Garcia was an eminent researcher and academic leader at the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts. His legacy of excellence in both his professional and personal life inspired many in his time and continues to serve as an example at NMSU. Founded in 1870 the Sisters of Loretto, the Academy of the Visitation was the first school in southern New Mexico and west Texas. This exhibition looks at the history of the Academy in Las Cruces, including the contributions to the community, Holy Cross School and St. Genevieve's. There is also a section describing student life at the academy. A smaller version of an exhibition displayed at the RGHC 2001 Annual Meeting. Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, Dr. Thomas loaned the RGHC some photographs, letters, and diaries from his days in WWII. |
