Letter to Clotilde Amador from Sister M. Bernard of the Loretto Academy in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on 2-12-1899

The paragraph about the smallpox epidemic begins:

"I saw Major Llewellyn the other day, but he did not see me.  I met Mr. Van Patten in the store about two or three weeks ago, he stated small-pox was very bad down in Cruces.  We have had very few cases, but the grippe - any amount of it - and it is proving so fatal so many dying."
